Violent Attack on Pro-Palestinian Protesters Sparks UCLA Investigation

WESTWOOD, LOS ANGELES – Following an attack on pro-Palestinian protesters last week at UCLA’s Royce Quad, an ongoing investigation is seeking to identify those responsible for the violence that Chancellor Gene Block condemned as “truly despicable.” In response to the incident, law enforcement, including the LAPD and FBI, has been mobilized to hold the perpetrators accountable.

Block emphasized the severity of the attack, labeling the instigators as perpetrators of violence against students, faculty, and staff advocating for Palestinian rights. The campus community has been urged to come forward with any information or eyewitness accounts to aid in the investigation.

The creation of a new Office of Campus Safety, overseen by Block and Chief Safety Officer Rick Braziel, aims to assess the University of California Police Department’s response to the attack and enhance security measures on campus. Braziel is working on a plan to provide additional protection for students, staff, and campus visitors.

In his notice to the UCLA community, Block stressed the importance of holding those responsible for the attack accountable and improving campus safety measures. The goal is to create an environment where all community members feel secure and can focus on learning, working, and thriving.

The university is committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the violent incident by reviewing footage and interviewing witnesses. Any new information or leads are encouraged to be reported promptly to aid in the identification of the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.
