Sacramento, California – David Perry has been found guilty of first-degree murder in connection to a road rage incident that resulted in the death of Lufino Reyes Mejorado on Interstate 5 in 2021. In addition to the murder charge, Perry was also convicted of attempted murder in a separate shooting incident.
The first shooting incident involving Perry took place on October 26, 2021, where he was reported to have struck another vehicle and then proceeded to fire six shots at the victim before fleeing the scene. The victim survived the attack despite sustaining injuries to the arm and face. Perry was also involved in another shooting on December 6, leading to Mejorado’s tragic death.
According to officials, Perry and Mejorado had an altercation at Watt Avenue, resulting in Perry allegedly chasing Mejorado onto the freeway. Perry then fired multiple shots at Mejorado’s truck, hitting him in the arm and waist. Despite Mejorado’s attempt to seek help by contacting 911, Perry returned to the scene and fatally shot him.
Following the incidents, Perry was seen disposing of the weapon on the West Sacramento overpass. He now faces a potential sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole, with sentencing scheduled for April 4, 2025.
