Bronx, New York — A 67-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 35-year-old man in a public housing complex. Enoch Rosado was arraigned in Bronx Criminal Court on Friday, where he was ordered held without bail.
The incident occurred early Wednesday morning at the Edenwald Houses, located on East 229th Street near Laconia Avenue. Police responded to reports of a stabbing around 4 a.m. and found Miguel Batiz with multiple stab wounds. Despite emergency efforts, Batiz was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prosecutors outlined their case against Rosado, citing witness statements and video evidence. Legal documents allege that Rosado struck Batiz in the head with an unspecified object, leading to the victim’s death. The relationship between the two men remains unclear, although authorities confirmed they were acquaintances.
Rosado was taken into custody later Wednesday evening, also facing additional charges of manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. Law enforcement did not publicly disclose the motive behind the stabbing.
During the court proceedings, Rosado appeared in a white jumpsuit, his hood pulled over his head. Family members were present but declined to speak with reporters outside the courtroom.
As investigators continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding the stabbing, the community grapples with the tragedy. The Edenwald Houses are among the several public housing developments in the Bronx, which have faced challenges linked to safety and violence.
Rosado’s next court appearance is slated for October 27, as the legal process unfolds in this shocking case.
