The explosion occurred on October 10 in a 15,000-square-foot facility where cast boosters for the commercial mining sector are manufactured. Authorities have conducted extensive searches over the past two weeks, focusing on the site where the blast took place, which spans over 500 acres.
At a press conference on Friday, officials reported that approximately 24,000 to 28,000 pounds of high explosives detonated, and nearly 1,000 pounds of undetonated explosives were successfully recovered. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has been pivotal in the ongoing investigation, working alongside local authorities to ensure the safe removal of hazardous materials while gathering vital evidence.
“While we know the location where the explosion initiated, we still lack a definitive understanding of the cause,” said Jamey Vanvliet, a Special Agent in Charge with the ATF. Investigators suspect that the blast originated in production kettles, but additional sympathetic detonations from nearby explosive materials contributed to the overall devastation.

Under federal regulations, licensed explosive operators are subject to inspections every three years, although inquiries regarding the inspection history of Accurate Energetic Systems have not been publicly addressed.
