Justice: Amazon Flex driver shot and killed during delivery route

KING COUNTY, Wash. – The family of an Amazon delivery driver who was fatally shot while making package drop-offs is demanding answers and accountability for his death. Sergey Kubay, 50, had been working as an Amazon Flex driver for at least four years when he was found shot in his car on the early morning of January 25th near Renton.

His brother expressed the need for Amazon to provide better protection for part-time drivers like Sergey, emphasizing the dangerous late-night delivery shifts. Sergey’s wife, also a package delivery driver, now fears for her safety while working for the company. The couple relied on the income from Amazon to support their children and now are left questioning who is taking care of Flex drivers like themselves.

The family is raising funds for Sergey’s funeral expenses and is focusing on healing and moving forward, rather than seeking vengeance. According to Kubay, “We don’t want to fall apart. We don’t want to stay mad at somebody for years and years. We have to forgive, we have to forget it, we have to move forward.”

Following the tragic incident, Amazon has expressed its deep sadness over the crime and offered support to the King County Sheriff’s Office as they conduct their investigation. However, there is an urgent need for answers and reassurance from both Amazon and the law enforcement authorities regarding the safety measures in place to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Sergey’s case is still under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact the King County Sheriff’s Office. It’s a heartbreaking story that raises serious questions about the safety and protection of delivery drivers, and the family’s demand for justice and accountability deserves attention.
