FHP Trooper and Truck Driver Killed in I-95 Crash: Suspect Held Without Bond

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A 30-year-old man appeared in court today following the fatal crash that took the lives of a Florida Highway Patrol trooper and a truck driver on I-95. Michael Anthony Addison, a Lauderhill resident, was arrested after being identified as the driver FHP Trooper Zachary Fink was pursuing before the fatal crash.

Addison faces 12 charges, including two counts of vehicular homicide, two counts of murder, and aggravated fleeing with a death. During his court appearance, the judge ordered him to be held without bond on several charges.

The incident began when a sheriff’s deputy spotted a speeding and reckless driver in a white Kia around 2:40 a.m. A pursuit initiated, but the suspect managed to evade the deputy. Fink later encountered the Kia and attempted to stop it, leading to a high-speed chase. The pursuit culminated in the Kia driving the wrong way on I-95, resulting in the tragic collision.

The collision claimed the life of the tractor-trailer driver and resulted in Fink being airlifted to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Fink, a 3-year veteran of FHP, was just 26 years old. The identity of the tractor-trailer driver has not been released.

Following the crash, the Kia continued driving in the wrong direction before crashing into a tree. The suspect fled on foot, sparking a massive manhunt. Addison was eventually apprehended around 8 a.m., bringing an end to the search.

The loss of both Fink and the unidentified truck driver has left the community in mourning, as authorities continue to investigate the devastating incident on I-95.
