Hotel horror: Woman accused of fatally shooting man at Hilton Suites

Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois – A 51-year-old woman from Naperville has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a man at an Oakbrook Terrace hotel pool on Saturday. Latrice Phillips was apprehended in her hotel room, appeared in court on Monday, and has been ordered to remain in custody until her trial, according to DuPage County officials.

According to authorities, Phillips was involved in a verbal altercation with a group of acquaintances, including the victim, 33-year-old Calvin Truitt, at the hotel pool. The altercation escalated when she entered an elevator with the group, resulting in a physical confrontation upon the elevator’s arrival on the seventh floor.

It was during this altercation that Phillips allegedly fired three shots at the victim and his group before retreating to her room. The hotel was placed on lockdown, and Phillips was taken into custody without incident.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., police received a call concerning a shooting at the Hilton Suites on Drury Lane. Police found Calvin Truitt III with several gunshot wounds. As a result of his gunshot wounds to his back and side, Truitt was rushed to a local hospital, where he later passed away. Officers discovered Phillips in her hotel room and recovered a 9mm handgun from a holster at her waistband.

Further details regarding the relationship between Truitt and Phillips remain undisclosed, but authorities confirm that they were acquainted prior to the incident. The Hilton released a statement expressing condolences to those affected by the tragedy, emphasizing their commitment to guest safety and cooperation with law enforcement officials. “We are deeply saddened to confirm the unfortunate incident that occurred at the Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Suites on Saturday evening involving an isolated shooting. ” The statement added, “The safety and well-being of our guests and staff are our utmost priority, and we continue to adhere to our strict safety and security standards and cooperate fully with law enforcement officials. “

Latrice Phillips is scheduled to appear in court again on January 4 for arraignment, where she will face a first-degree murder charge for the death of Truitt.
