DALLAS, Texas — A Venezuelan man, believed to have carried out a brutal attack reminiscent of Russian roulette, has been apprehended in Texas. Raul Enrique Pargas Rodriquez, 31, was arrested on August 14 after a lengthy investigation by U.S. authorities.
Pargas is accused of attempted aggravated femicide stemming from a violent incident on February 24, 2021, where he allegedly assaulted a woman in his workshop. Reports indicate that he verbally abused the victim before physically assaulting her and forcing a gun to her head in a harrowing act. The woman managed to escape, prompting Pargas to flee Venezuela and enter the United States illegally on August 10, 2022, near Eagle Pass, Texas.
Upon his arrival, Pargas was initially detained by U.S. Border Patrol but was released while awaiting immigration hearings. His legal troubles intensified when he was arrested again on November 28, 2023, for an unrelated assault in Dallas County. However, he was not taken into custody due to prosecutorial discretion at that time.
The situation changed dramatically following a tip received by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from the Border Patrol, alerting them to Pargas’s ongoing illegal residency and his status as a wanted individual in Venezuela. In collaboration with the U.S. Marshals and the Texas Department of Public Safety, ICE tracked him down and arrested him in Plano.
Pargas now remains in ICE custody as he faces pending immigration proceedings. Authorities have not released additional details regarding his future in the U.S. or the steps that will follow his arrest.
