Lakeville, Minnesota—A man from Rosemount has been sentenced to jail and probation after pleading guilty to charges related to a serious assault on a woman. The attack, which occurred near Parkview Elementary School in October, involved violent threats and actions that left the victim injured and traumatized.
On December 30, 2025, Steven Allen Rokosz, 50, was sentenced in Dakota County District Court following his guilty plea to felony threats of violence. This plea was entered earlier in the month, allowing the court to move forward with sentencing.
Rokosz received a 90-day jail sentence, with credit for 57 days already served, leaving him 33 days left to complete. Additionally, the court imposed an 18-month prison sentence at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud but stayed the execution of that sentence for three years. This means he will not begin serving time unless he violates the conditions of his probation.
Supervised probation for three years was also mandated. The terms include multiple restrictions designed to protect the victim and ensure Rokosz receives necessary interventions. Among these are prohibitions on contacting the victim, using alcohol or drugs without a prescription, and possessing firearms. He must also undergo mental health evaluations and follow treatment recommendations.
The court has reserved judgment on restitution for up to 60 days, allowing Dakota County Community Corrections to determine any financial reimbursement owed to the victim. In addition, Rokosz is required to pay $215 in fines and fees associated with the legal proceedings.
The violent encounter that brought about these charges involved a 45-minute ordeal on October 4, 2025. The victim reported that Rokosz approached her while she was walking, initially engaging in conversation about religion. However, the situation escalated dramatically when she was dragged onto his property. Witness reports indicated Rokosz inflicted significant physical harm and made alarming threats during the attack, leading to injuries, including a head injury that caused hallucinations.
Prior to his arrest, Rokosz had a documented history of threatening behavior in the same neighborhood, adding to concerns about community safety. He was taken into custody on November 4, 2025, after Lakeville Police, with the assistance of the South Metro SWAT Team, executed a search warrant at his residence.
Prosecutors have emphasized the gravity of Rokosz’s actions, describing him as a substantial risk to public safety. If he fails to comply with the terms of his probation, he may find himself facing immediate transfer to state prison for the full duration of his stay sentence.
