Assault and Rape: Star Man Sentenced to 45 Years for Brutal Attack on Ex-Partner

Star, Idaho – A Star man has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for the brutal assault and rape of his ex-partner in her own home. Matthew Blazek, 47, received the maximum sentence following a violent attack on a former girlfriend in Ada County.

Blazek was found guilty of rape, use of a deadly weapon, forcible penetration, domestic violence in the presence of a child, and attempted strangulation by a jury in Ada County. The incident occurred in July 2023 when he broke into the victim’s home through a window, assaulting her over the course of several hours in the presence of her young child.

The victim, who sustained injuries covering most of her body, was able to call the police after Blazek left her residence to report the attack. Following his conviction in January, the judge deemed Blazek a high risk to re-offend, describing his behavior as “predatory.”

As part of his sentence, Blazek must serve at least 20 years in prison before he is eligible for parole, with a maximum of 45 years. This means he will not be released until he is 92 years old if he serves the full term.

The case serves as a reminder of the prevalence and impact of domestic violence, highlighting the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. The victim’s bravery in coming forward and reporting the attack demonstrates the courage required to seek justice in such situations. The sentencing sends a strong message about the consequences of committing such heinous acts and the need to prioritize the safety and well-being of survivors.

Overall, the outcome of the trial underscores the severity and consequences of domestic violence, emphasizing the need for continued efforts to prevent and address such crimes in communities. The sentencing of Blazek reflects the justice system’s commitment to holding offenders accountable and seeking justice for victims of violence.
