Hillsborough detectives said Kyle Sanchez killed Amanda Roark at a Tuscan Loon Drive home.
PALM RIVER, Fla. — A woman was found dead and her boyfriend was later charged with murder after deputies responded Friday to an emergency call at a Hillsborough County home, authorities said.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said the call came in shortly after 3 p.m. on June 19 from a residence on Tuscan Loon Drive in Palm River. Deputies found Amanda Roark, 37, dead at the scene with upper-body trauma. A man at the home, 35-year-old Kyle Sanchez, was taken to Tampa General Hospital with minor injuries.
By Saturday, detectives said they had learned Sanchez killed Roark while they were together inside the home. The sheriff’s office said Roark and Sanchez were in a dating relationship. Officials did not release the caller’s name, the exact nature of the emergency report or a detailed account of what happened before deputies arrived.
Sanchez was charged with premeditated first-degree murder with a weapon, one of the most serious charges under Florida law. He remained hospitalized Saturday morning, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators did not say when he would be booked into jail or when he would make his first court appearance.
The sheriff’s office released few details about the evidence collected at the home. Detectives did not identify a weapon, describe Sanchez’s injuries in detail or say whether Roark died before or after the 911 call was placed. Officials also had not said whether witnesses were present or whether neighbors heard anything before deputies arrived.
The death brought a large law enforcement response to a residential area of Palm River, east of Tampa. Deputies treated the home as a crime scene while investigators worked to document the location and build a timeline. Sheriff’s officials said the case remained under investigation after the murder charge was announced.
The case now moves toward court review once Sanchez is released from medical care. Prosecutors will review the sheriff’s office findings, and additional records may clarify the allegations, the evidence and the sequence of events inside the home.
