Police said two masked suspects fled after the early Friday shooting.
JACKSON, Miss. — Jackson police are investigating a deadly armed robbery that killed one store employee and injured another around 1 a.m. Friday at Sally Food Mart on North Flag Chapel Road.
The shooting left the West Jackson business closed Friday as robbery and homicide detectives worked the case. Police said both victims were male employees. One died from his injuries, and the second was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
Officers responded to the business after a report of an armed robbery. When they arrived, they found two workers with gunshot wounds. Police said early information pointed to two Black men wearing ski masks as suspects. Their names were not released, and no arrests had been announced.
The dead employee’s name was being withheld while officials notified relatives. Police said the case is being investigated as a homicide and aggravated assault. The injured worker remained hospitalized Friday, but police described his condition as stable.
The shooting happened in the 200 block of North Flag Chapel Road, a commercial area in West Jackson where the food mart serves regular customers. By Friday, caution tape blocked the entrance, and people who came for usual purchases found the store shut down.
Trameaka Coney said she had just left the store before the shooting. She said she heard gunfire after she got home. “That’s scary,” Coney said, adding that she wondered whether she had been near the robbers without knowing it.
Police had not said how much, if anything, was taken during the robbery. Investigators also had not released a detailed timeline of what happened inside the store before shots were fired.
The investigation remained active Sunday. Police had not announced arrests or released the victims’ identities by the latest public update.
