Atlanta police said Jonquail Myers was targeted in an isolated robbery-related incident inside his apartment complex parking deck.
ATLANTA — Three men have been charged with murder and armed robbery after Atlanta police said a 29-year-old Buckhead resident was targeted and fatally shot during an alleged robbery inside his apartment complex parking deck.
Jonquail Myers died early Friday after officers responded to 2171 Peachtree Road NE at about 1:39 a.m., according to Atlanta police. Officers found Myers suffering from a gunshot wound inside the parking deck, and Grady emergency personnel pronounced him dead despite lifesaving efforts. Police later identified three suspects and announced charges against them the same day.
Brian Wingo, Charles Lewis and Ky-Mani Goodings each face murder and armed robbery charges, Atlanta police said. The three were apprehended after authorities located a vehicle believed to be connected to the shooting in Cobb County. They were later transferred to Atlanta police custody and taken to the Fulton County Jail. The allegations against them have not been proven in court.
Lt. Christapher Butler said investigators believe the shooting was an isolated incident tied to a robbery rather than a random attack at the apartment property. Police have not publicly said what the suspects allegedly sought from Myers, whether anything was taken or what led to the confrontation before gunfire erupted.
A friend or associate who was with Myers during the incident was also injured. Police said the man was not struck by gunfire and that his injuries were not life-threatening. He was transported to a hospital for treatment. Authorities have not publicly identified him or explained how the injuries occurred.
The case moved quickly after investigators obtained security video from the apartment complex. Police said the footage helped them identify a suspect vehicle, leading authorities to issue a lookout for a Chevrolet Impala. A matching vehicle was later found in Cobb County, where law enforcement pursued it and apprehended the three occupants.
Atlanta police initially said three people connected to the vehicle had been detained as investigators worked to determine their roles in the shooting. Homicide detectives later said they had established probable cause to charge Wingo, Lewis and Goodings with Myers’ death and the alleged armed robbery.
Authorities have not released a detailed timeline of the encounter inside the parking deck, including how long Myers and the suspects may have been in the same area before the shooting. Police also have not announced whether investigators recovered a firearm or other physical evidence believed to be connected to the case.
The death brought a homicide investigation to a residential complex on one of Buckhead’s major corridors and drew attention from residents and others with connections to the property. Police have emphasized that their preliminary investigation points to a targeted robbery-related encounter rather than a broader threat at the complex.
The investigation remains open, and Atlanta police have cautioned that preliminary information can change as detectives review additional evidence. Wingo, Lewis and Goodings remain charged with murder and armed robbery in connection with Myers’ death.
