No Arrests After Woman Found Fatally Shot in West Side Home

No suspect, motive or arrest had been announced after a 42-year-old woman was found shot inside a residence.

CHICAGO, Ill. — Chicago detectives continued investigating Monday after a 42-year-old woman was found shot multiple times inside a West Side home early Sunday and later died at a hospital, with key circumstances surrounding the killing still unknown.

Officers responded at about 12:04 a.m. Sept. 6 to the 2100 block of West Jackson Boulevard and found the woman unresponsive inside the residence, police said. Emergency crews took her to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Area Three detectives are investigating, but police had not announced an arrest or identified a suspect in the latest available reports. Authorities also had not disclosed a possible motive, whether the victim knew the person responsible or what may have happened inside the home before officers arrived.

The woman had not been publicly identified as of Monday morning. Police have released only limited information about the case, leaving unanswered how the shooting unfolded and whether investigators are looking for one person or multiple people.

Authorities have not publicly said whether witnesses were present or whether investigators obtained surveillance footage from the area. No description of a vehicle or person being sought in connection with the shooting had been released.

The fatal shooting occurred during a Labor Day weekend in which police investigated multiple shootings across Chicago. CBS Chicago reported Monday that at least five people had been killed and 17 others wounded in shootings during the holiday weekend as of the period covered by its latest tally. The West Jackson Boulevard killing was among the shootings listed early Sunday.

That broader tally does not establish any connection between the West Jackson Boulevard case and the other shootings. Police have not publicly linked the woman’s death to another incident or announced evidence indicating the killing was part of a wider series of crimes.

For now, the investigation remains focused on determining what happened inside the residence and identifying whoever was responsible. No arrests had been announced, and detectives had not released additional details about a suspect or motive.
