Texas Court of Criminal Appeals: Affirms Conviction and Death Sentence for 2011 Capital Murder Case

College Station, Texas – The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has upheld the conviction and death sentence of Gabriel Paul Hall for the 2011 capital murder of Edwin Shaar in his College Station home. The attack also involved Linda Shaar, who was sitting in her wheelchair at the time, according to the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office.

The ruling denied Hall’s request for a new jury trial based on alleged errors related to the defense counsel’s representation and the defendant’s rights. This decision solidified the trial work and legal arguments presented by the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office, affirming the conviction and punishment of Hall for the crimes committed in 2011.

According to the district attorney’s office, Wednesday’s ruling marked the end of the appeals at the state level. The case had been in the appeals process since Hall’s original conviction in 2015, following a jury trial that resulted in a capital murder conviction and a subsequent death penalty sentence.

Hall’s original conviction and sentence date back to 2015, a culmination of a lengthy legal process that now concludes with the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals’ decision. This ruling puts an end to the case’s state-level appeals and solidifies the previous jury’s decision to sentence Hall to the death penalty for the crimes committed at the Shaar residence in 2011.
