Teen Neighbors Exchange Gunfire From Their Own Driveways

Investigators said two neighboring 19-year-olds left separate vehicles before exchanging shots outside their homes.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A confrontation that began inside two vehicles ended with neighboring 19-year-olds shooting at each other from their driveways Friday afternoon in a west Harris County subdivision, investigators said.

Both people suffered multiple gunshot wounds during the exchange in the 5300 block of Tuglow Ravine Lane, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. They were taken to a hospital, underwent surgery and were expected to survive.

The sequence described by detectives places the shooting directly outside the neighbors’ homes. Investigators said the dispute began while the two were in vehicles, though officials did not explain whether the vehicles were moving or parked at the time.

The neighbors got out of the vehicles as the altercation continued, the sheriff’s office said. They then opened fire from their respective driveways. Authorities have not released information establishing who fired first.

Detectives were working to reconstruct the events leading to the shooting, including what caused the dispute and whether anyone else witnessed it. No witness statements or surveillance recordings had been made public.

The sheriff’s office did not identify either wounded person or disclose whether they were questioned after surgery. Their exact medical conditions were not released beyond the agency’s statement that both were expected to survive.

Authorities also had not said whether firearms were recovered at the scene or whether investigators were examining any property damage caused by the gunfire. No additional injuries were reported in the initial account.

It remained unclear whether either neighbor could face charges. The sheriff’s office said the investigation was continuing but had not announced arrests or provided a timetable for a charging decision as of Sunday.
