COLUMBUS, Ohio – New details have emerged about the harrowing escape of two passengers and a flight attendant from a private plane that crashed on a Florida highway, resulting in the tragic deaths of the two pilots.
According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office incident report on the Feb. 9 plane crash, the aircraft went down around 3:15 p.m. near Naples after taking off from Ohio State University Airport at 1:02 p.m. The plane collided with a car on Interstate 75 before exploding.
The flight stewardess, 23-year-old Sydney Ann Bosmans, reported that the pilots had warned of a dual engine failure before instructing the passengers to brace for impact. Despite the chaos, Bosmans managed to open the rear door and lead the two Columbus passengers, 35-year-old Aaron Baker and 23-year-old Audra Green, to safety before the plane exploded.
Tragically, the two pilots, 50-year-old Edward Murphy from Oakland Park, Fla., and 65-year-old Ian Hofmann from Pompano Beach, Fla., did not survive the crash. Bosmans and the passengers sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
