Supreme Court Appeal Filed by Moss Point Inmate Convicted of Teen’s Murder

MOSS POINT, Miss. – A death row inmate, Leslie Galloway III, is seeking another appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court in hopes of overturning his capital murder conviction. Galloway was charged with the 2008 rape and killing of 17-year-old Shakeylia Anderson from Gulfport, leading to his 2010 conviction.

This latest appeal focuses on Galloway’s claims that his Sixth Amendment right to confront witnesses against him was violated during his trial. Court documents reveal that DNA expert testimony presented by the state came from someone other than the actual testing personnel, raising questions about the reliability of the methods used.

Prosecutors asserted that Galloway was responsible for Anderson’s death, alleging that he took her life and disposed of her body in a wooded area near Highway 15. Witnesses reported seeing Anderson enter Galloway’s car on December 5, 2008, with her body discovered the following day by hunters. The prosecution further claimed that Anderson had been sexually assaulted, suffered severe burns, and was run over by a vehicle.

Despite prior denials of appeal by the U.S. Supreme Court in 2014 and 2024, Galloway’s legal team continues to challenge the handling of evidence and testimony during the trial. This ongoing legal battle brings into question the procedures followed in such high-stakes criminal cases, highlighting the need for strict adherence to constitutional rights and standards of justice.
