FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. — Authorities are investigating a shooting incident that left one man dead and another injured late Saturday evening in Fresno County. The gunfire erupted near a truck repair yard at the intersection of Cedar and Jefferson avenues.
According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, Banwari Godara, 23, was fatally wounded in the shooting, while a 21-year-old man sustained injuries and has since been treated and released. Emergency responders transported the injured men to a nearby urgent care facility, approximately 20 minutes from the crime scene, although the reasons for this choice remain unclear.
Sheriff’s office spokesperson Tony Botti indicated that preliminary findings suggest the incident was isolated, with all parties involved having prior connections. “We believe those present knew each other, but the specific circumstances that led to the conflict are still under investigation,” Botti stated.
Video footage captured shortly after the incident shows first responders arriving at the scene around 8 p.m. Witnesses have reported hearing multiple shots, heightening concerns in the community. As authorities continue their inquiry, there is currently no known motive, nor is there evidence to suggest gang involvement.
As of now, law enforcement has not identified any persons of interest, and no arrests have been made. The sheriff’s office is urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in resolving the case. Community members are expressing their alarm over the rise in violence, urging collective efforts to ensure safety and prevent further incidents.
Investigators are actively examining the evidence collected at the scene and interviewing witnesses in hopes of piecing together the events leading up to the shooting. Botti emphasized the importance of community cooperation in addressing such violence and finding justice for the victims.
As the investigation progresses, the Fresno County community remains on edge, seeking clarity and resolution regarding the tragic events of Saturday evening.
