Daly City, California — A San Francisco woman is recovering from serious injuries after a brutal and unprovoked attack in a shopping center, prompting community concerns about safety.
Nicole Malouf, 31, had just concluded her shift at a local pastry shop when she stopped by Nation’s Giant Hamburgers at the Westlake Shopping Center late Thursday night. Around 11:40 p.m., as she exited the restaurant, she was assaulted just steps from her vehicle, according to local police.
Witnesses report that Malouf was confronted by an assailant who began hitting her repeatedly. Her aunt, Tracie Tang, described the scene, stating that the attacker shouted for her keys while unleashing a flurry of punches. Despite her efforts to defend herself, Malouf ended up on the ground, subjected to further blows until she managed to grasp the restaurant’s door handle for support.
Authorities noted that the suspect fled the scene, leaving Malouf with multiple injuries, including an orbital fracture and swelling on the right side of her face, along with a significant cut inside her mouth. The severity of her injuries prompted Tang to express deep concern for her niece’s well-being.
After the loss of her mother four years ago, Tang has played a maternal role in Malouf’s life. The emotional toll of this violent event is significant, as Malouf expressed gratitude for her aunt’s presence during her hospital stay, stating her longing for her mother’s support.

They identified 30-year-old Marc Joseph Buada as the individual facing multiple felony charges, including attempted carjacking and assault.
