Robbery Gang Member Shot Dead by Anambra State Police During Checkpoint Confrontation

IGBOUKWU, ANAMBRA STATE, NIGERIA – An unidentified member of a four-man robbery gang was fatally shot by Anambra State Police Command operatives after pulling out a pistol in an attempt to shoot the officers at a checkpoint. The incident occurred in the Igboukwu community in Aguata Local Government Area.

The remaining three members of the gang were also arrested, and a Barreta pistol and dagger were recovered from them. According to the state police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects had boarded a commercial bus from Nnewi and were heading to an unknown destination before encountering the police at the checkpoint.

Anambra State Police Command officers apprehended the armed gang at Igboukwu in Aguata LGA. The gang, which had boarded a commercial bus from Nnewi, arrived at a police checkpoint, where they were stopped for a search. One of the suspects then pulled out a pistol and was subsequently shot by the police.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Aderemi Adeoye, commended the police personnel for their vigilance and directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case for a thorough investigation. Additionally, he ordered the immediate release of two elderly passengers who had boarded the bus at a different location.

The Anambra State Police Command assured the public that it would continue to prioritize the safety and security of all law-abiding citizens in the state. The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat crime and uphold the rule of law in the region.
