PASADENA, Md. — A double homicide on Sunday has left the Pasadena community in shock as police report that a couple was shot in what appears to be a targeted attack. Authorities apprehended a suspect after a vehicle chase concluded in Severn later that day.
Police received calls reporting gunfire around 1:55 p.m. on November 16 and responded to the 1700 block of Twickenham Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered a man and a woman who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel pronounced both individuals dead at the scene. They have since been identified as Jeanna, 54, and William Hayes, 56, who resided in Pasadena.
Following the initial response, homicide detectives launched an investigation, quickly identifying a potential suspect and vehicle based on information collected from the 911 calls. The investigation quickly gathered momentum as officers utilized the department’s Automated License Plate Reader program to track the suspect vehicle.
By approximately 6:27 p.m., officers spotted the vehicle near the intersection of Severn Road and Ridge Road. As police attempted to make the stop, the driver accelerated, triggering a pursuit that ended near Quarterfield Road off Interstate 97. The suspect, identified as 61-year-old Anthony Louis Reyes from Nottingham, Maryland, was taken into custody after the chase concluded.
Reyes has been charged with two counts each of first-degree and second-degree murder, as well as first and second-degree assault related to the deaths of the Hayes couple. A court appearance for a bail review was scheduled for Monday morning, where a temporary commitment order was also issued due to Reyes’s health issues.
Initial reports from investigators suggest a familiarity between Reyes and the victims, although the police have yet to disclose a specific motive behind this tragic incident. Authorities have described the shooting as an isolated event, alleviating concerns for public safety in the immediate area.
As the investigation continues, detectives urge anyone with relevant information to assist them by reaching out to the Anne Arundel County Police Homicide Unit. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the police tip line or Metro Crime Stoppers.
The Pasadena community mourns the loss of the Hayes couple, who were well-known in the area. As family and friends come to terms with the shocking events, the investigation aims to bring clarity and justice to those affected by this devastating crime.
