ST. LOUIS — A 28-year-old man has been charged with two counts of murder following the tragic shooting of a pregnant woman and her unborn child in St. Louis. Prosecutors announced the charges against Vanier J. Jones on Friday, stemming from the incident that took place on April 23 in the Fairground Park area.
Authorities allege that Jones fatally shot 35-year-old Christina Lynn Rentchler multiple times. Medical examiners confirmed that Rentchler was in her second trimester of pregnancy when she was killed. The shooting, described by law enforcement as heinous, also injured another victim who survived. That individual later reported to police that Jones had been staying at the residence where the crime occurred.
The sequence of events is particularly disturbing: the attack allegedly took place in front of five small children, ages 2 to 10, prompting additional charges against Jones.
