LAS VEGAS High School Student Sues Over Violent Classroom Attack Amid Calls for School District Accountability

LAS VEGAS, Nevada — A violent incident at a high school in Las Vegas has sparked a new lawsuit against the Clark County School District. Video footage of the February 2022 attack, which was shared on social media, captured a girl being repeatedly punched in the head by another student as classmates looked on.

The disturbing video, lasting around 18 seconds, raised concerns about the safety and security measures in place within the school. Attorneys representing the student involved in the attack have pointed to the incident as a clear indication of failures in the school district’s policies and practices.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Nevada has joined the legal fight on behalf of the student, who remains unidentified. According to attorney James R. Sweetin, the girl has been undergoing serious ongoing medical treatment since the incident occurred, and she deserves justice for what she has endured.

The lawsuit claims that the Clark County School District had the means to prevent the attack from happening but failed to do so, alleging negligence on the part of school and district leaders. As a result of these failures, the student suffered serious injury to her body and nervous system, leading to ongoing pain, suffering, and disability.

In response to the pending litigation, the CCSD declined to provide comment. The incident has prompted calls for greater accountability within the school district and for measures to ensure the safety and well-being of all students. The lawsuit remains ongoing as the community seeks answers and justice for the student involved.
