New Delhi, India – The National Investigation Agency (NIA) made a significant arrest in connection with the violent attacks on the Indian high commission in London last year. Inderpal Singh Gaba, a resident of Hounslow, UK, was apprehended in Delhi for his suspected involvement in the attacks on March 19 and 22. This marks the first arrest in the case, according to the federal agency.
The attacks in London, orchestrated by pro-Khalistan supporters, involved vandalism of the high commission building, tearing down of the Indian flag, and other destructive activities. The protests were reportedly led by UK-based Sikh radical and Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) leader Avtar Singh Khanda. The NIA’s investigation revealed a connection between the attacks and the Punjab police’s actions against Amritpal Singh, highlighting a broader conspiracy to target Indian missions and officials.
During the protests, over 2,000 supporters defaced the high commission building and engaged in unlawful activities. The agency did not disclose the specific role of Gaba in the attacks or his affiliations with pro-Khalistani leaders. However, NIA emphasized that the incidents in London were part of a larger scheme to unleash violent acts against Indian establishments.
Following the arrests, a NIA spokesperson stated that efforts were being made to identify other suspects involved in the attacks. Look-out circulars (LOCs) have been issued against several individuals, and further inquiries are ongoing to unravel the full extent of the conspiracy. The agency’s investigation also involved a collaborative effort with the Metropolitan police in gathering evidence of the attacks.
