COLUMBUS, Ohio — Authorities in Columbus are seeking help in their investigation of the recent homicides of a local couple. Dr. Spencer Tepe, a 37-year-old dentist, and his wife Monique Tepe, 39, were both found shot dead in their home last week, prompting questions about their untimely deaths.
Police responded to a wellness check request on December 30 and discovered the couple’s bodies on the second floor of their residence shortly after 10 a.m. Medical personnel pronounced them dead at the scene. Remarkably, their two young children were in the home during the incident but were unharmed.
Investigators suggest the couple was shot sometime between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. on the day of the discovery. Concerns grew when Dr. Tepe’s employer reported that he had failed to show up for work. While the dispatcher initially downplayed the situation, the urgency escalated as multiple calls were made seeking a wellness check. A friend of Spencer’s later called 911 to report a body, revealing the horrifying scene he encountered.
The Franklin County Coroner’s Office released an initial statement indicating that the deaths are classified as a double homicide involving gunshot wounds; however, full reports will take weeks to finalize.
To aid the investigation, police released security footage of a person of interest. The individual, seen walking in an alley near the couple’s home during the hours of the shooting, wore light-colored pants and a dark hooded jacket. Detectives are urging local residents to come forward with any information that could lead to an arrest.
Family members expressed their grief through a heartfelt statement, describing the couple as “extraordinary people whose lives were filled with love, joy, and deep connection to others.” Spencer Tepe, a graduate of Ohio State University, was noted for his involvement with the American Dental Association and the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization, as well as being a passionate fan of local sports teams. His wife, Monique, was celebrated as a loving and devoted mother, known for her baking and thoughtful planning.
The community has rallied around the Tepe family as they mourn the loss of two beloved figures, remembered for their dedication to their children and their active roles within the community. A cousin fondly reflected on the couple’s unwavering love and commitment to family.
As investigators continue to piece together the details surrounding this tragic event, the calls for justice echo loudly in the Columbus community. Authorities are committed to solving this case and urge anyone with information to come forward.
