Orlando, Florida – An 85-year-old woman, Lucy Pat Curl, wife of Pastor Bill Curl, tragically lost her life after being brutally attacked by a burglar who posed as a community service officer. The suspect, Ronald Davis, a convicted felon, committed the violent act on January 31, with Curl succumbing to her injuries on February 4.
During the attack, Davis allegedly pretended to be a community service officer to gain access to Curl’s home. When confronted by Curl for proof of identification, he viciously assaulted her, leaving her in critical condition. Despite the ordeal, Curl managed to crawl to the couple’s vehicle and honk the horn for help until her husband discovered her hours later.
Following the incident, Davis fled the scene but was later apprehended after leaving behind crucial evidence. Police found him asleep in a shed a few miles away, with stolen items belonging to the pastor, including rare coins, jewelry, and a bloodstained sweater.
Originally charged with multiple offenses, including home invasion robbery and aggravated battery, it remains uncertain if Davis will face a murder charge in connection with Curl’s death. Davis had only been released from prison in June 2024 after serving time for burglary, assault, and robbery.
Described as a resilient woman who survived cancer three times, Curl’s unexpected passing has left her family and community devastated. Despite the tragedy, Pastor Curl expressed forgiveness towards the perpetrator, emphasizing his refusal to let the actions of the assailant define him.
A memorial service is scheduled to commemorate Curl’s life on February 16 at the Baptist Church of Orlando, where she was a beloved member of the congregation. The community continues to mourn the loss of a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many.
