Father Fatally Shot At Son’s Birthday Party In Milwaukee Park

Deputies said a 25-year-old woman was arrested with two firearms.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. — A family celebration at Center Street Park ended in grief Saturday when 22-year-old Pepe Sikisi-Belle Jr. was shot and killed during his son’s birthday party.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded about 6:47 p.m. after reports of a shooting at a large family-style picnic. Sikisi-Belle was found with gunshot wounds and died at the park, officials said.

His mother, Marissa Bopilo, said the gathering was for Sikisi-Belle’s son, who was turning 4. She said an argument started before the shooting. Bopilo recalled getting a call that her son had been shot twice, then rushing to the park and finding him on the ground.

A 25-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested at the scene. The sheriff’s office said she was carrying two firearms. Investigators said they believe she and Sikisi-Belle knew each other, but they have not said what led to the gunfire.

Relatives and friends gathered Sunday to remember Sikisi-Belle, who they said was devoted to his children. Family members said he had two young children and was enrolled at Milwaukee Area Technical College. Bopilo said he had dreams of working in law enforcement or law.

“He wanted to give his kids and everyone around him a better life,” Bopilo said. Another family member said the death had left relatives calling for an end to gun violence.

No other injuries were reported. The sheriff’s office said detectives continued to investigate the shooting Monday, and no charging decision had been announced.
