Father of Four Killed Near Denver Skatepark

Officials say no arrests have been made in the death of 28-year-old Jacob Hensley.

DENVER, Colo. — Denver police are continuing to investigate the fatal shooting of Jacob Hensley, a 28-year-old father of four who was wounded near the downtown skatepark and died early May 22.

The case centers on a late-night shooting near 20th and Little Raven streets, close to Denver Skatepark. Police have said everyone involved has been contacted, but no arrests have been announced. The medical examiner classified the death as a homicide.

Records from the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner show Hensley was transported by ambulance from the 2000 block of Little Raven Street to Denver Health Medical Center. The office said he died from multiple gunshot wounds. Police responded around 11 p.m. May 21 after reports of gunfire in the area.

Hensley’s wife, Allison Hensley, said the family still does not know why he was killed. “He did not deserve to die,” she said in an interview with 9NEWS. She said her husband had gone outside before the shooting and never returned home.

Officials have not publicly described the full sequence of events before the gunfire. Police have not said whether the people contacted by investigators include witnesses, suspects or others present at the scene. They also have not released information about a possible motive.

The shooting added another homicide case to a busy month for Denver death investigators. The medical examiner’s public case summaries list multiple May deaths ruled homicides, including Hensley’s death and other fatal shootings in separate parts of the city.

Because no arrest has been announced, the case has not yet moved to a public court hearing. The next steps could include further police interviews, forensic review and a charging decision if prosecutors determine the evidence supports criminal charges.

For now, the public record shows a narrow set of confirmed facts: Hensley was shot near Little Raven Street, taken to Denver Health, and died from multiple gunshot wounds. His family says the loss has left four children without their father.

The investigation remained ongoing Monday, with no announced arrest and no public court date tied to the case.
