Edmonton Police Search for Suspects in Brutal LRT Platform Attack

Edmonton, Alberta – The Edmonton Police Service has released images of six suspects wanted in connection with a violent attack on a man at the Churchill LRT platform last month. The incident occurred on February 24, where a 64-year-old man was violently assaulted by a group of individuals, resulting in serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The suspects also robbed the man before fleeing the scene.

In response to the attack, Mayor Amarjeet Sohi expressed concerns from citizens about safety when using the transit system. The city is taking measures to enhance safety on public transit by increasing resources for police, funding for transit security officers, and investing in social workers to provide services and programs to individuals in need.

Sohi addressed the root causes of violence and disorder, attributing them to factors such as lack of housing, mental health support, addictions recovery, and deteriorating social infrastructure. Despite ongoing safety challenges, the city remains committed to improving the safety of the transit system for all passengers.

The Edmonton Police Service urged the public to come forward with any information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects. One suspect, described as a male in his 20s to 25s, was armed with pepper spray during the assault. Another suspect, in their 30s, had blond hair and was carrying an over-the-shoulder bag at the time of the attack.

Three additional suspects were also described, with details of their appearance and clothing provided by the police. A photo lineup of the third, fourth, and fifth suspects was shared with the public in hopes of identifying and locating them.

Arrest warrants have already been issued for a sixth suspect, Travis Damian Houle, who is facing charges of aggravated assault, robbery, and failure to comply with a probation order in connection with the assault at the Churchill LRT platform. The Edmonton Police Service continues its investigation into the incident, urging anyone with information to contact the authorities.
