DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Authorities in Dekalb County are facing challenges in the investigation into the tragic death of Brandon Veal. The District Attorney’s office has stated that they lack sufficient evidence to convict the person responsible for his killing.
Veal’s fatal encounter occurred on August 6, 2022, when he visited a friend’s residence with his girlfriend and her young child. Witnesses reported hearing a gunshot moments after Veal returned to his car with his girlfriend and her son, leaving loved ones devastated by the sudden loss.
Initial reports indicated that the girlfriend claimed her three-year-old child accidentally fired the fatal shot while seated in Veal’s lap. However, a coroner’s report revealed that the bullet entered through Veal’s right temple, suggesting that the weapon was discharged from the passenger side of the vehicle.
Although the girlfriend was initially detained on suspicion of murder, the District Attorney’s office decided not to press charges due to insufficient evidence.
