VIVIAN, La. — In the wake of tragedy, the small town of Vivian is coming together to honor the memory of a beloved police officer. Blue and black bows, symbols of mourning and support, adorn homes and businesses throughout the community following the death of Officer Marc Brock, who was killed in the line of duty on November 14.
The memorial initiative began at New Beginnings, a local flower and gift shop run by Missy Moore. In a heartfelt gesture, Moore offered free bows to anyone wishing to pay tribute to Brock. “He was always so helpful and caring,” Moore reflected, recalling a recent interaction with the 25-year-old officer. “He called me ‘Miss Missy’ and came in to handle some personal business just last week.”
Moore quickly realized the community’s desire to participate in the memorial. After the initial batch of bows was claimed swiftly, she and her husband made a trip to Texarkana to restock, working late into the night to craft additional bows. Her efforts have resonated across Vivian, with approximately 250 bows being displayed at various locations, including local businesses and city hall.
“I love your heart,” her husband told her as they worked. Moore hopes that the bows bring some comfort to Brock’s family and the community amid their shared grief. “My hope is that it helps them find a little joy in this time of sorrow,” she said.
A resident known for her generosity and kindness, Moore has been creating bows for 35 years. Her personal connection to the Brock family drives her commitment to support them and the local police department during this difficult time. She emphasized the community’s collective message: “We want them to know they are not alone. If making bows can help, then we’ll keep making them.”
The mayor’s office has also embraced this memorial effort by requesting bows for the town hall, further emphasizing the community’s solidarity in remembering Officer Brock. Citizens are finding ways to express their condolences and show appreciation for the sacrifice made by law enforcement.
In a town where everyone seems to know one another, the loss of Officer Brock has created a palpable void. But in their grief, the residents of Vivian demonstrate resilience and unity, turning their sorrow into a poignant tribute that reflects the spirit of their close-knit community.
