Assault Charges: Man Admits Violence Against Former Partner, Branded “Danger to Women” by Judge

SHREWSBURY, ENGLAND – Juke Marsh, 28, was sentenced to 16 months in prison, suspended for two years, by the Shrewsbury Crown Court on Thursday. Marsh admitted to assault, actual bodily harm, and criminal damage related to violence towards a former partner in May and June last year.

According to the court, the first incident on May 23, 2021, saw Marsh spit at his former partner, punch her, and smash her TV. A month later, he conducted a “prolonged and consistent assault” on his victim in her hallway while her children were present in the home, though they did not witness the attack.

This was not the first time Marsh had been before the courts for attacking women he had been in a relationship with, as he had a history of violence against three separate women. Recorder Julian Taylor branded Marsh a “danger to women,” stating, “You engaged in a shocking piece of behavior and violence, and not the first time. You have a propensity of being violent against women.” Despite this, the judge decided to give Marsh a chance and sentenced him to 16 months in prison, suspended for two years, for his “dreadful display of behavior.”

In addition to the suspended prison term, Marsh was ordered to take part in a Building Better Relationships program, undergo six months of alcohol treatment, complete 15 rehabilitation activity days, and carry out 100 hours of unpaid work. He was also handed a restraining order prohibiting him from contacting his victim.

The sentence comes as a response to Marsh’s violent behavior towards his former partner, and aims to hold him accountable while also providing an opportunity for rehabilitation. The judge’s decision takes into account both the safety of the public and Marsh’s potential for change. It remains to be seen how Marsh will carry out the sentencing requirements and if he will demonstrate genuine remorse for his actions.
