Arrest of DeLand Coach Sparks Outrage After Minors Involved in Violent Attack and Gun Threat

DELAND, Fla. — A local man was arrested on charges of contributing to the delinquency of minors after allegedly driving several teenagers, including his own brother, to a home where they participated in a violent incident that escalated into a gun threat.

Marquion Lane, 32, was apprehended by DeLand police on Tuesday following an early morning confrontation that unfolded on the front porch of a residence. Authorities reported that surveillance footage captured the struggle, which involved multiple juveniles assaulting a 15-year-old boy.

The victim’s mother was inside the house during the incident. She recounted that the ruckus began with a loud noise. Upon exiting the home, she observed her son being attacked and saw Lane with the group of fleeing teenagers. Lane, who is also known to have coached the victim in football, reportedly remained with the youths during the chaos.

As tensions heightened, the situation took a perilous turn when the victim’s mother yelled at the departing vehicle. According to her statements, a young male from the group brandished a black handgun and pointed it in her direction. Fearing for her safety, she ducked when she reportedly heard a click, which suggested that the weapon may have malfunctioned.

Police managed to locate a 16-year-old boy who is suspected of wielding the firearm. He now faces multiple serious charges, including aggravated assault and illegal possession of a weapon. Due to his age, his identity has not been publicly disclosed.

Authorities are still investigating the incident and are working to identify two additional minors who were involved in the attack and are also expected to face battery charges.

Lane was released after posting a $500 bond. The ongoing investigation continues to unfold as law enforcement examines the events surrounding the altercation and the roles played by each participant.
