Arrest Made in Murder Case Three Years After Fatal Shooting

Killeen, Texas – More than three years after the tragic shooting of a 45-year-old woman, Mark Anthony Hamilton, 43, has been indicted on a first-degree felony charge of murder by a Bell County grand jury. The incident, which occurred on December 17, 2020, resulted in the death of Tonya Denise Dixon. Hamilton was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Killeen after a warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was booked into the Bell County Jail on February 12.

Upon police arrival at an apartment building on South Tenth Street following a 911 call reporting a gunshot victim, Tonya Denise Dixon was found in significant pain and was transported to the hospital by EMS. The scene revealed multiple bullet holes in the apartment door and a bullet hole in a window facing the street. Witnesses identified Mark Hamilton as the shooter, stating there had been a confrontation between the parties earlier that day at a convenience store in Killeen.

Dixon tragically passed away at the hospital with autopsy results indicating she suffered two gunshot wounds. Hamilton remains in custody with a $1 million bond for the murder charge. Alongside Hamilton, several other individuals were also indicted in Bell County for various charges such as violation of motor fuel tax requirements, stalking, injury to a child, aggravated robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of controlled substances, theft of property, burglary, assault of a family member, and indecency with a child.

The swift indictment of Hamilton highlights the progress in the case following years of investigation.
