Amazon: Family Seeks Accountability after Delivery Driver Killed

KING COUNTY, Wash. (AP) – The family of an Amazon delivery driver who was fatally shot while on the job is seeking answers and accountability from the shooter and the company. Sergey Kubay, 50, worked as an Amazon Flex driver for at least four years before he was found shot in his car, which he used for part-time package deliveries. His brother is calling on Amazon to provide better protection for part-time drivers like Sergey.

Sergey’s wife, who also works as a package delivery driver, now fears for her safety on the job. The couple relied on the income from Amazon to support their family, but now they are left wondering about the safety of Flex drivers, who often make deliveries late into the night. The family is urging Amazon to step in and provide better protection for all drivers.

Sergey was delivering packages at the Fairwood Pond Apartments in King County when he was shot. According to Kubay, he had picked up an evening shift on the 24th and was found the following morning, having been shot twice. Initial reports suggest that Sergey may have been involved in an altercation at the time of the shooting, and it’s likely that he was targeted, although the motive remains unclear.

As the family mourns Sergey’s death, they are focused on moving forward. Sergey’s brother expressed the family’s desire to find peace and move forward, rather than seeking justice. They are currently raising funds to lay Sergey to rest and providing a link for those who wish to help.

Amazon has expressed condolences to the family and is cooperating with the King County Sheriff’s Office in the investigation. The sheriff’s office is urging anyone with information to come forward by contacting the listed phone number or email. The case is still under investigation.

In the wake of this tragic incident, the family is calling for increased safety measures and support for all Flex drivers. They hope that Sergey’s death will bring attention to the safety concerns that arise for those working in similar roles.
