Woman Stabbed While Walking in Long Beach

Police are also reviewing a second stabbing reported early Friday on East Anaheim Street.

LONG BEACH, Calif. — A woman was hospitalized after police said a man approached her and stabbed her while she was walking in Long Beach late Thursday, starting an investigation that widened after another stabbing hours later.

The first call brought officers to the 4500 block of California Avenue at about 10:36 p.m. May 28. Officers found an adult woman suffering from wounds to her upper and lower body. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics transported her to a local hospital. Police said she was stable.

The suspect left before officers arrived, police said. Investigators had not released a motive or a public description of the man. Police said the attack remained under review, including whether the victim and suspect knew each other.

At about 3:09 a.m. May 29, officers were sent to the 3200 block of East Anaheim Street for another stabbing. An adult man told police he had been stabbed by a male suspect who also fled. He was taken to a hospital and treated for a non-life-threatening wound to the upper body.

Police had not confirmed any link between the two cases. The attacks happened several miles apart and within the same overnight period, but investigators had not announced evidence tying them together.

The cases remained active Monday, with no arrest reported. Police said the motive, circumstances and suspect information were still under investigation.
