A woman died and a man was hospitalized in critical condition after the shooting.
HOUSTON, Texas — A woman was killed and a man was critically wounded in a southwest Houston shooting near South Gessner Road and South Braeswood Boulevard, police said.
Houston police said the case is being investigated as an attempted murder-suicide. Officers responded to the area after a shooting was reported and found two victims. The woman died, while the man was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Authorities had not released the victims’ names or ages by Friday. Police also had not said what relationship, if any, existed between the woman and the man. Investigators were still piecing together the timeline and looking for evidence from the area.
The shooting drew a police response to a busy part of southwest Houston lined with homes, apartments and businesses. Detectives were expected to check for nearby surveillance cameras and speak with anyone who may have heard or seen the gunfire.
Police did not announce any arrests. Because the wounded man remained hospitalized, investigators had not released a full account of what led to the shooting. Officials said the investigation remained active.
The woman’s identity will be released after confirmation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences and notification of relatives. Police said more information could be released as homicide detectives complete interviews and review evidence.
As of Friday, June 19, 2026, the man was still listed in critical condition, and Houston police continued to investigate the fatal shooting.
