Police said no obvious signs of foul play were found at the scene.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A woman was found dead Wednesday morning in a dumpster on Vogt Avenue, prompting a Louisville Metro Police death investigation, officials said.
The call came in about 6:05 a.m. in the 3400 block of Vogt Avenue. Officers arrived and found the woman deceased. Police said the Homicide Unit was assigned because the death was unattended, a standard step while investigators gather facts and wait for a coroner’s ruling.
Louisville Metro Police said there were no obvious signs of foul play where the body was found. Officials had not released the woman’s name, age or address. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office is expected to determine both the cause of death and the manner of death after its review.
Police did not say whether the dumpster was outside a home, business or other property. They also did not say whether surveillance video, witness statements or sanitation records were being reviewed. No charges had been filed, and investigators had not described the case as suspicious beyond the need for a death investigation.
The case drew attention because of where the woman was found and because basic facts remained unknown. Authorities had not explained how she entered the dumpster, when she died or whether she had any connection to the area. Police said the investigation was ongoing.
The next formal update is expected to come from the coroner’s office or Louisville Metro Police after identification and medical findings are complete. Until then, the case remains open, with investigators working to establish a timeline and determine whether anyone else was involved.
As of Thursday, officials had not announced the woman’s identity or a cause of death. Police said the investigation on Vogt Avenue remained active.
