HOUSTON, TX – Authorities in Harris County are investigating a homicide after a woman was found dead in her garage late Tuesday night. The tragic discovery was made by the woman’s stepson at a residence on Ellesmere Drive near the Cloverleaf community in East Harris County.
The Harris County Sheriff’s Office received the call around 9:30 p.m. Emergency medical services arrived at the scene shortly after, confirming the woman was unresponsive and pronouncing her dead. A homicide investigation has since been launched.
Preliminary findings indicate that the woman’s biological son, who was at the home when deputies arrived, was found with a hammer. According to authorities, the stepson reported that his stepbrother was behaving erratically and not communicating. This prompted him to call 911, and when officers arrived, the suspect complied with their instructions and was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators are currently focusing on the woman’s son as a suspect in the case. Authorities have yet to conduct a formal interview with him, and it remains undetermined if the hammer was used in the suspected crime. The victim is believed to have been in her late 60s or early 70s.
Family members and others who arrived at the scene are being interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. Deputies are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the woman’s death and to establish a motive.
The incident is the latest in a series of violent crimes that have plagued Harris County, marking the ninth or tenth crime scene for one investigative team since Saturday. The Sheriff’s Office has expressed concern over the escalating violence in the area.
