Fontana, California, authorities responded to a domestic violence incident late last month, leading to the arrest of a local man and the discovery of a significant stockpile of weapons. The incident unfolded on August 30 when a 911 call prompted deputies to investigate a home on Carmel Street.
Upon arrival, deputies found a woman outside the residence with a serious head injury. Concern grew when they learned that her husband, later identified as Galo Mejia-Reyes, was armed with a handgun inside. Deputies quickly requested backup to ensure the safety of all involved.
Law enforcement used a public address system to instruct Mejia-Reyes to exit the home without any weapons. After several tense minutes, he complied and was taken into custody without further incident, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.
A search of the home revealed a troubling cache: multiple assault-style rifles, handguns, high-capacity magazines, a collapsible baton, and a considerable amount of ammunition. Investigators noted that several of the firearms and magazines violated California law.
While details surrounding the condition of Mejia-Reyes’ wife remain sparse, authorities confirmed she received medical treatment for her injuries. The incident raises serious concerns about domestic violence and the associated risks posed by firearms.
