Violent White Swan Couple Sentenced for Assault with Intent to Murder in Federal Prison

Yakima, Washington – A White Swan couple has been sentenced following a violent attack that shocked the community. Chief United States District Judge Stanley A. Bastian handed down the sentences to Sundron Larsell Miller, 37, and Paula Eulojia Cantu-Lopez, 28, for their roles in a disturbing incident involving carjacking, assault, and firearm offenses. Both individuals received significant prison sentences for their actions, highlighting the seriousness of the crimes committed in this case.

According to court documents and testimony presented during the trial, Miller and Cantu-Lopez, who were romantically involved, were involved in a harrowing altercation on December 28, 2021. The victim, a member of the Yakama Nation, found herself in the middle of a violent dispute between the couple while driving in the area of Fort Simcoe Road on the Yakama Reservation. The situation escalated quickly, with both Miller and Cantu-Lopez turning their aggression towards the victim, resulting in a terrifying ordeal.

During the altercation, Miller attempted to use the victim’s own rifle to harm her, pointing the weapon at her face and pulling the trigger, only to find it unloaded. The victim was then assaulted, forced into a truck, and taken to a residence in White Swan, where the violence continued. Fortunately, the victim managed to escape and seek help, leading to the involvement of the Yakama Nation Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation in investigating the incident.

The trial, presided over by Chief District Judge Bastian, culminated in guilty verdicts for both defendants, underscoring the severity of their actions. US Attorney Waldref commended the victim for her bravery in coming forward and working with law enforcement to seek justice, highlighting the importance of collaboration between agencies to address violence in tribal communities.
