Oil field accident in southwest Kansas injures two in tank battery explosion

GARDEN CITY, KANSAS – Two individuals were injured in an oil field accident that occurred in southwest Kansas on Wednesday morning. The incident, which took place just before 11:30 am, prompted a swift response from the Garden City Fire Department.

Reports indicated that an explosion had occurred in the vicinity of 3300 West Annie Scheer Road in Finney County, leading emergency personnel to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered two victims suffering from significant burns. Immediate medical attention was provided to the injured parties until they could be handed over to Finney County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for further care and transportation.

Subsequently, efforts were made to contain a small fire that had erupted in an oil field tank battery as a result of the incident. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control by 12:08 pm, preventing any further spread of the fire to surrounding areas.

Multiple local agencies and departments collaborated in the emergency response, providing crucial support in handling the situation. Among those offering assistance were Finney County EMS, the Finney County Sheriff’s Department, Finney County Emergency Management, the Kansas Highway Patrol, the Holcomb Volunteer Fire Department, and the Holcomb Police Department.
