Violent Attack Leaves One Dead and Two Injured in Kano Quarters – Suspected Hoodlums on the Loose

Kano, Nigeria – The Jaen Makera quarters in Kano were shaken by a violent incident that resulted in the loss of one life, Muktar Garba, and left two police officers injured. The outgoing Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, confirmed the tragic event in a recent phone interview, shedding light on the chaos that unfolded in the area.

Garba, also known as Babalia, succumbed to his injuries at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano, with his body now released to his family for burial. Despite the presence of law enforcement officers, a group of armed individuals carried out a brutal attack on innocent civilians, leading to the mobilization of extra reinforcements from the police tactical team and nearby divisions.

The timely response from the authorities helped restore peace as the assailants fled the scene. Commissioner Gumel emphasized that ongoing efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, ensuring they face consequences for their violent actions. Moreover, he disclosed that previous clashes involving hoodlums wielding dangerous weapons in different parts of the city were swiftly quelled by police intervention.

Two police officers, Wasilu Umar and Abdulmalik Yusif, who sustained injuries during the incident, have already received medical treatment and been discharged from the hospital. In addition, a suspect linked to the attack on Officer Yusif has been arrested, with reported damage to a vehicle attached to Filin Hockey.

Gumel highlighted that the state police command is actively addressing the underlying causes of violence, aiming to foster sustainable peace and well-being for all residents affected by such incidents. The situation has since returned to normal, with a visible police presence to maintain order and stability in the area.
