Violent Assault on L.A. Dash Bus Driver Raises Safety Concerns In Public Transit

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – A Los Angeles Dash bus driver was viciously attacked by a homeless woman in South Los Angeles, adding to ongoing safety concerns within the public transportation system. The incident took place at the intersection of South-Central Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard, prompting a response from the Los Angeles Police Department.

According to reports, the homeless woman assaulted the driver after refusing to pay for a ride, leading to a violent struggle captured on video. The footage showed the homeless woman dragging the bus operator, who was behind a plexiglass barrier, off the bus and onto the sidewalk. The driver fought back, enduring blows to the face before managing to re-enter the vehicle and drive away.

This attack comes just days after a “sick out” staged by Metro transit operators due to a series of violent incidents on buses and trains in the area. Previous incidents include a fatal stabbing on a Metro train in Studio City and a stabbing of a bus driver in Willowbrook. These incidents have raised concerns about the safety of both passengers and operators within the public transportation system.

In response to the escalating violence, the L.A. Metro board member expressed fear for personal safety and reluctance to ride the bus alone. The Dash buses, operated by the L.A. Department of Transportation, serve various neighborhoods in the city and are known for their affordable fares.

Following the altercation, it is unclear if the bus driver sustained any serious injuries or if she received medical evaluation. The female suspect was apprehended by authorities, though the charges she may face remain undisclosed at this time. The incident highlights the ongoing safety challenges faced by public transportation drivers and passengers in Los Angeles.
