Buffalo, New York witnessed a tragic incident late Saturday night, where a 14-year-old girl lost her life in a mass shooting that left five other teenagers injured, aged between 14 to 16. The shooting took place in a parking lot behind the Neighborhood Housing Services of South Buffalo on Alexander Place, as reported by the Buffalo police.
The incident unfolded after officers were called to the area of 1500 Jefferson Avenue due to noise complaints and reports of a large house party with hundreds in attendance. Subsequently, shots were fired in the same vicinity later in the evening, followed by reports of a person being shot. The young female victim was rushed to Oishei Children’s Hospital, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries. She was identified as a student at a Buffalo charter school.
In a heartbreaking statement, a family member shared fond memories of the vibrant and athletic young girl, expressing the impact of her personality on those around her. Following the shooting, a 15-year-old boy, along with three other males, were taken to ECMC for medical care. Unfortunately, the 15-year-old was listed in critical condition, while a 16-year-old boy declined treatment for a bullet graze at the scene.
As of Sunday afternoon, the perpetrator of the shooting remained at large, prompting Mayor Byron Brown and Buffalo Police to appeal to their conscience. Urging the shooter or shooters to surrender, Mayor Brown and deputy police commissioner Al Wright emphasized the gravity of the situation and the need for justice for the deceased teenager.
