Pietermaritzburg, South Africa – A mother in Copesville is seeking justice for her 20-year-old son who tragically lost his life in an alleged vigilante attack. Michele Govender witnessed her son, Ryan, being brutally beaten by community members after being accused of stealing a grass cutter, leading to his untimely death in the hospital.
The brutal assault on Ryan began on Christmas Eve, with community members taking matters into their own hands without evidence of his alleged crime. Despite Govender questioning the accuser about witnessing the theft, her son was subjected to a series of violent beatings across multiple locations in Copesville.
Following the vicious attack, four men between the ages of 30 and 40 were arrested for Ryan’s murder. While two of the individuals were granted bail, the other two remain in custody awaiting their court appearance on April 19.
