KAGADI, UGANDA – A horrific attack by suspected cult members has shaken the village of Mizizi A in Uganda’s Kagadi district, resulting in the tragic deaths of at least eight individuals, including a young child. This violent assault, described by authorities as an unprecedented act of brutality, also left eight others injured.
The ambush took place in the remote hamlet, located about 250 kilometers west of the capital city of Kampala. Initial reports from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) suggest that the assailants, believed to be members of a newly emerging cult, specifically targeted individuals within their own families. A UPDF representative stated, “Preliminary information shows that members of a new cult attacked people, mostly their family members, and inflicted serious harm.”
Local police have confirmed that among the deceased are four children under the age of 13, underscoring the heartbreaking impact of the incident. Security forces, including military personnel and police, are actively pursuing the perpetrators as the investigation unfolds. Two of the suspected attackers were neutralized by security forces during the response, emphasizing the swift action taken to restore order and apprehend those responsible.
The proximity of Kagadi to the Kingfisher oilfield, a significant crude oil project operated by the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), has raised concerns in the area. However, authorities have clarified that there is no evidence linking the oilfield to the attack or suggesting it was a target.
As authorities continue their inquiries, local residents are urged to remain vigilant and assist security forces in preventing further violence. The tragedy has deeply unsettled the village, with residents mourning the loss of lives and grappling with the incomprehensible violence perpetrated by individuals once considered part of their community. The aftermath of the attack has left a profound impact on the villagers, who are seeking answers and justice in the wake of this devastating event.
