Investigators are examining speed, braking and possible distraction after a truck towing a loaded trailer struck two vehicles.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two teenage boys were killed and two drivers were hospitalized after a pickup truck towing a trailer loaded with vehicles struck a car and another pickup on Edgewood Avenue West, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
The crash happened at about 11:15 a.m. Saturday, July 25, near the intersection of Edgewood Avenue West and Lem Turner Road. Police said a Dodge 3500 pickup was traveling east while pulling a large trailer carrying two vehicles when it struck the back of a Toyota Camry.
The impact pushed the Camry into the back of a Ford Ranger pickup and forced the Ford through the intersection, investigators said. The Dodge then came to rest on top of the Camry.
First responders found the two teenage passengers dead inside the Camry. Authorities had not released their names or ages as of Thursday.
The Camry’s 28-year-old driver was trapped after the collision and had to be removed by Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department crews. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Ford also was hospitalized and was listed in stable condition.
The Dodge driver, described by police as a man in his 50s, was not reported hospitalized. Sgt. Robert Hungerford of the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit said the driver was cooperating with investigators.
Detectives were working to determine the speeds of the vehicles and whether braking contributed to the crash. Hungerford said investigators also were considering whether distraction played a role. Police had not announced any citations or criminal charges.
The collision occurred as the Dodge traveled downhill while towing the loaded trailer. Investigators had not released information about the combined weight of the truck, trailer and vehicles or the distance available for the driver to stop before impact.
The deaths were recorded as Duval County’s 106th and 107th traffic fatalities of 2026, according to the Sheriff’s Office. No later information about the hospitalized drivers’ conditions or the completion of the investigation had been released.
