Twins Sentenced to Four Years for Brutal Assault Caught on CCTV

Stockton, England — Two twin brothers were sentenced to four years in prison for their roles in a violent assault that left a man unconscious. The attack occurred on April 7 outside a residence on Hartington Road and was captured on surveillance footage.

At Teesside Crown Court, prosecutors detailed how 20-year-old Leon Bayat instigated the brutal confrontation by using a pole to strike the victim. The footage revealed him delivering several kicks to the man’s head before jumping onto him while he lay defenseless on the ground. Leon’s twin brother, Lewis Bayat, joined the attack shortly afterward, contributing to the severity of the assault.

Cainan Lonsdale, the prosecutor, described the brothers’ actions as “persistent,” with Leon employing a mix of physical blows and heavy stamping on the victim’s chest while he was incapacitated. After the incident, the twins attempted to change their clothing and flee the scene but were apprehended nearby.

During the proceedings, it was noted that the victim did not assist in the police investigation and did not provide a victim impact statement. This lack of cooperation left some details of the case unclear, but the severity of the crime was evident in the footage presented to the court.

The Bayat twins were already subject to a community order at the time of the assault due to a previous incident where they had assaulted a police officer in a hotel. Both brothers pleaded guilty to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.

Jennifer Coxon, who represented Leon, described his difficult upbringing and noted that he spent time in the care system. Meanwhile, Michele Turner, representing Lewis, highlighted that he was just 19 at the time of the crime and had only recently turned 20 while in custody.

Recorder Andrew Sutcliffe KC conveyed his disapproval of the brothers’ actions during sentencing. He emphasized the seriousness of the assault, especially given the significant injuries sustained by the victim. The judge stated that the court had reviewed the footage and was disturbed by the brutal nature of the attack.

As the brothers prepare to serve their sentences, this incident serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of violent behavior, particularly among individuals already in the judicial system.
